Super Disco Friends – Dimitri From Paris/Dj Muro

Label: Headphone Heroes

Take one superfly international playboy, DJ Dimitri from Paris and one legendary Krush Posse hip hop space cadet DJ Muro from Japan, stir in a convincing collection of some of the most underrated disco classics around and fill it to the brim with old school hip hop, a touch of soul and some party crackers then play the whole thing through a philly’ funk filter and you have a 2-CD selection of mix tape magic.

Heaphone heroes present an alternative look at the disco boom, each disco chum converging on the kind of resident beat skag that began in the underground clubs and muscled its into the more mainstream, commercial dance scene of the late Seventies.

Way more than just a rummage through the archive, the album features a dangerous array of forgotten classics: ‘Get Fly’ by Tj Swann,  ‘I Just Wanna Do My Thing’ by Edwin Starr, Hot Ice’s ‘Dancin Free’, Philly Devotions’ ‘Hurt So Bad’ as well as appearances by Family Plann, John Davis And The Monster Orchestra, The Sparkles, Spartacus, Rhond Durand, Jackie Robinson, Mantus & Omega 88, Symbol 8, The Avons, The Freedom Suite and Gino Soccio.

They told us all that glitters is not gold. They were talking bollocks, naturally.
