Underwater Episode 2 – Underwater

Label: Underwater Records

Due to hit the shops on May 26th, ex-Underworld member and label boss Darren Emerson together gritty Brixton funk traders, Mutiny, release the follow up to last summer’s ‘Underwater Episode One’ – with ‘Underwater Episode Two’.

Featuring some cheeky little remixes from the source-likes of Gus Gus (‘Call Of The Wild’) and Mutiny (‘Drums’) the album provides a more than worthy showcase for Ministry of Sound stalwart Paul Jackson and recent release ‘The Push’, as well as a perfect location to juice up your own summer sound system with the dazzling Philadelphia string sections of ’77 Strings’ by Kurtis Mantronix Presents Chamonix’. But as fluid as this house is and as greased down on tanning oil as you’d expect, there are still rippling undercurrents of electro going down in the Darren Emerson mix – no coincidence one suspects in light of the recent success of electroclash and Emerson’s own jagged little techno edge. This isn’t your average Sasha style party mix kind of house – it’s too edgy for that – so try imagining that ice cool ‘Breezer followed down with a mouthful of cider.

Split into two juicy segments – the rattling, darker Emerson mix and the lolloping funky sunshine of the Mutiny mix, you may also be wanting to know that there will be 3000 limited edition copies of the compilation in a colour gel pack filled with blue water-like oil. Why? Well isn’t it obvious? The last time somebody did this though, the gel packs popped due to the air pressure on the freight plane. But if you’ve ever been out to Ibiza, you’ll already be well acquainted with feeling like popping on the way back anyway.
