City Reading – Air

Label: Source

Okay then, throughout their 5-year career, Air have openly embraced new challenges, continually driving themselves to explore the boundaries of their skills as composers and freakishly sincere spokesmen of ‘cool’.  They’ve also been known to have a few hairbrained schemes and crackpot ideas up their sleeves too, and this is no exception.

Following the strangely interesting “10,000 Hz. Legend“ album, Air (JB Dunckel and Nicolas Godin) released Air & Alessandro Baricco“City Reading“ on March 25th .

Alessandro Baricco is Italy’s most famous contemporary writer, known for his unusual characterizations and lyrical, poetic style – a bit artier than Nick Hornby, but not as rich as say, ‘The Name Of The Rose’s’ Umberto Eco.

The album was sessioned originally as a live performance in a theatre during readings of one of his best selling novels “City“. The show premiered last November in Rome’s Teatro Valle with such artistic success that both decided to make a record out of it and the result is “City Reading“. Air recorded more than one hour of original music mixed by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, over which Baricco recites his own texts in Italian . The result is a deep and difficult record, but worth pursuing if only to impress your wealthy girlfriend.
