A Thousand Ep – Munkster

Label: Toast

Just released on the marvellously independent TOAST label, Munkster’s debut EP ‘A Thousand’ energetically prefigures their scheduled show at the soon to be reopened (and legendary) Marquee Club on October 10th.

Championed by the likes of Clare Sturgess and all at XFM and with swathes of sultry atmospherics and open-heart surgery vocals, Munkster offer a slightly off-kilter, skewed take on similarly spectral bands like Coldplay and Starsailor. Gutsier and heavier than either of these bands, though and with swelling prog rock tendencies to boot, the band’s ‘A Thousand’ EP peddles ska stabs and rock jabs with a fair old modicum of success, and though the title track may hint at the derivative and the unremarkable ‘Medicine’ clearly hints at something more.

With a situations vacant appearing in the ‘Manics’ department, Munkster – hungry and eager to please – could be just the job you’rve been looking for. Check them out at the Marquee, why not.
